Experiences with poor people.

In English class in the book Esperanza Rising, Esperanza escapes and in the wagon she sees a lot of poor people because she before was in first class and now she is at a lower class so she never had this experience with poor people so the teacher said that what is your experience with poor people, and my experience is:
When I was in Barcelona I saw many people begging for money, there where some people that didn’t have any arms or legs and they couldn’t walk. Once I was with my small uncles and in front of their house we saw a man who was carrying his own house.
There is a place in Barcelona that it’s called “La diagonal” and a lot of people walk through “La diagonal” and there are some African people who are trying to sell sunglasses or scarf’s all type of things and if the policemen pass around there and so the African people pick their stuff up and run to another place where they can sell those things. In Barcelona when I am always in the centre I see a lot of people begging for money.
And now that I am in Qatar I think that it’s worse because where I live in the West Bay Lagoon in some of the compounds they have like a small house maybe 2 by 3 meters and in that square live three people that are the ones that take care of the gardens. And when I saw that I was shocked, I said to my mom that, why did they have to have such a little space for three people?
And here also in Qatar the workers that they work the whole day and the only get paid 800 R a month, and when they go in the bus they don’t have air in the bus. And when you drive past them they always stare at you. And I think that is it, or I just don’t remember more.
And what about you what is your experiences with poor people?

Great post Isabel. I have been in Qatar for three years and I still have a hard time dealing with how different classes of people live. It doesn’t seem fair that the people who are building this country should be treated the worst, but having said, this type of class difference is in every country as you pointed out in Spain as well. I am sure you have see it in the USA as well.
I want you to be sensitive with how you refer to people as us and the. For you calling some one a “black guy” might not be a big deal, but for someone who has experience racism because of their race, that might be an insensitive comment. Just some thing to think about.
You are doing a great job with ideas, the nest step is to fine tune your writing. Keep up the good work!
